Pendant Drop Frieze Limestone Mantel

Seen from the side, this heavy grey mantel shows a frieze carved as a row of large rounded pendant drops hanging beneath a deep shelf, each one blunt and slightly irregular where the stone has worn. The corbels below are carved with a rosette inside a scrolled bracket, and the jambs drop plainly to broad plinth blocks. Stone tiles line the opening behind glazed fire doors, and the hearth is laid in matching slabs. The limestone is cool grey and coarsely weathered. It suits libraries, lodges, great rooms and interiors built around heavy stone.
