Roundel and Figure Frieze Limestone Mantel

The frieze of this mantel is divided into carved panels: two roundels each holding a broad open rosette, set either side of a centre panel carved with two facing winged figures. The shelf above is moulded and heavily chipped at one corner, left as found rather than made good. Scrolled console legs stand on plain plinths, and the opening is backed by a tall herringbone brick recess. The limestone is deep gold and roughly weathered. Photographed on a terrace above the sea, it suits loggias, courtyards, garden rooms and restoration projects.
