Cartouche Limestone Mantel with a Projecting Hood

A blocky, deeply worn mantel photographed at an angle. The shelf is a rounded moulded slab with broken joints showing along the front, the frieze is plain except for one carved scrolled cartouche at the centre, and a second stone hood projects below the frieze over the head of the opening, giving the piece two shelves rather than one. The jambs are wide chamfered blocks. Scrolled wrought iron fire doors close the firebox. The limestone is golden and heavily pitted. It suits kitchens, family rooms, farmhouses and rustic Mediterranean style interiors.
