Carved Foliate Frieze Limestone Mantel

The most heavily carved mantel in the collection. A gadrooned shelf edge runs the full width above a deep frieze cut with openwork foliate scrolls that wind out from a central oval cartouche, and a second band of leaf and dart moulding closes the frieze below. The legs are scrolled consoles carved with acanthus and a rosette medallion, seated on stepped plinth blocks either side of the opening. The limestone is pale cream, open grained and finely pitted across the flat faces. It suits estate drawing rooms, libraries, hotel lobbies and formal reception rooms.
