Shell Cartouche Limestone Mantel with a Serpentine Shelf

The shelf of this mantel breaks forward and back in a serpentine line, moulded along its whole edge and returning deeply at each end. Beneath it the frieze is dominated by a large carved cartouche built around a fluted shell, with foliate scrolls and small flowers spilling sideways from it and down over the shaped opening. The legs are wide volute scrolls carved with acanthus and finished on square blocks. The stone is white to cream with a soft chalky surface. It suits living rooms, primary suites, formal salons and decorative interior schemes.
