Great Room Limestone Mantel Beneath Timber Trusses

Photographed from a gallery above, this mantel anchors a double height room faced in limestone blockwork. The shelf is a straight moulded slab, the frieze below is carved in a continuous band of foliate ornament with a raised centre, and the jambs stand out as plain flat pilasters either side of a wide opening with a fire burning in it. Seen at that distance the piece reads as a pale horizontal band across the chimney breast, which is exactly how a mantel behaves in a tall room. It suits great rooms, lodges, hospitality projects and double height halls.
