Fluted Pilaster Limestone Mantel with a Dentil Shelf

The most architectural piece here. Under a straight shelf runs a band of small carved dentils, and below that a frieze of scrolling foliage broken by a central palmette rising from a small urn and closed at each end by a square block carved with a rosette. The legs are fluted pilasters with carved capitals set on plain plinths, standing square to the wall rather than scrolling forward. The limestone is pale and evenly worked. Photographed in a dim room mid installation, it suits libraries, studies, panelled rooms and classical interior schemes.
