Oval Cartouche Limestone Mantel with Rosette Blocks

Seen in strong sun from the side, so the depth of the carving is obvious. A scrolled oval cartouche sits at the centre of the frieze, flanked by two recessed rectangular panels and closed at each end by a square block carved with a four petal rosette. The shelf above is plainly moulded and squared off. The legs are the strongest element: deep acanthus leaves curl over the top of each console and run down to a scrolled volute foot. The limestone is near white and finely pitted. It suits drawing rooms, primary suites and formal interiors.
